Tenger, July 2026 – (few places left)
The Hangai mountains form the central mountain range of Mongolia, not connected to any other mountain range in Mongolia. The western and eastern ‘half’ of the Hangai are separated by a small depression. In the western part we find its highest peak, Otgon Tenger, reaching over 4000 metres above sea level and covered with a glacier. The eastern part reaches up to around 3500 metres altitude.
Important rivers such as Selenge and Orkhon, which flow to the Baikal lake, have their sources in the Hangai.
Highlights of the 2026 Expedition:
Organized by André van Eck, this expedition will focus on middle and high Alpine fauna and flora, both aquatic and on land. It encompasses rivers (eg. Orkhon), mountain steppe, alpine meadows, mires, peatlands and vast forests.
